Under Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations in Australia, all disposable vapes containing lithium batteries must be carried in your carry-on cabin baggage only. Packing vapes in checked baggage is strictly illegal. In addition, devices must remain powered off or inactive during the flight, and in-flight charging or use is strictly prohibited.
Whether flying between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Perth with major carriers like Qantas, Virgin Australia, or Jetstar, navigating airport security with vapour devices requires strict adherence to federal dangerous goods guidelines.
Never pack disposable devices into checked suitcases. Lithium cells present a thermal fire hazard in unpressurized aircraft cargo holds.
Airlines prohibit plugging vapes into in-seat USB ports or power banks during transit. Keep your devices stowed inside your personal bag.
Cabin pressure drops can cause fluid expansion. Store devices upright inside a sealed plastic pouch to contain potential leakage.
Aviation Compliance Matrix for Australian Travellers
| Airport Checkpoint | CASA Regulatory Rule | Recommended Practical Action |
|---|---|---|
| Carry-On Screening | Permitted in reasonable personal quantities | Place devices in your liquids/electronics tray if requested |
| Checked Luggage | STRICTLY BANNED | Baggage will be flagged and opened by airport security |
| In-Cabin Use | FEDERAL OFFENCE | Never vape in cabins or aircraft lavatories (smoke detectors will trigger) |
| Pressure Protection | Fluid can leak as cabin altitude reaches 8,000 ft | Keep silicone mouthpiece plugs inserted during flight |
